How to reserve a Steam Controller
Valve is offering Steam users the opportunity to reserve a Steam Controller.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsAfter the Steam Controller sold out following their initial release, Valve has prepared a reservation system to allow more players to buy themselves a controller as they become available. If you’re still trying to grab one yourself, here’s how you can reserve a Steam Controller.
How to buy a Steam Controller
Reservations for the Steam Controller will open on May 8, 2026, at 10 am PT/1 pm ET. Once players reserve a spot, they’ll be placed in a queue. Once a player reaches the front of the queue, they’ll receive an email inviting them to buy a Steam Controller. Once the email is sent, the user will have 72 hours to purchase their controller. Sales are limited to one controller per reservation.
Valve is enforcing a couple of restrictions to prevent bots from clearing out their stock. Users making a reservation will need to have made a purchase on Steam before April 27, 2026, and their account needs to be in good standing.
That’s how you can reserve yourself a Steam Controller. It’s Valve’s first hardware release of 2026, with the company set to release the Steam Machine and Steam Frame sometime this year.
