Anthropic, the company behind the popular AI model Claude, has officially filed for an IPO (initial public offering). Following a review from the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), Anthropic will become a publicly traded company.

Anthropic announced the news in a press release on its website. “Today, Anthropic, PBC confidentially submitted a draft registration statement on Form S-1 to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of our common stock,” the post reads. “This gives us the option to go public after the SEC completes its review.”

Momentum had been building toward an Anthropic IPO over the past few weeks. The company recently raised $65 billion in funding, which brought its total valuation to $965 billion. Once Anthropic becomes a publicly traded company, it will report quarterly earnings, share its forecast for future financial quarters, and answer to investors.

As for the exact timing of the IPO, Anthropic says that it “will depend on market conditions and other factors.”

Anthropic might not be the only AI company to hit the market soon. Rumors swirled recently that rival OpenAI could be preparing an IPO filing in the near future.
