The long-awaited Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is officially dead. Ubisoft announced the “discontinuation” of that remake and five other games in a recent release regarding an organizational reset for the company. While The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has been in development for years, it apparently failed to meet a standard of “enhanced quality” in review, leading to its cancellation alongside the other games.

Ubisoft put out a press release today that covered details of its upcoming company reorganization, as well as announcing the cancellation of games that included the Sands of Time remake. The other five titles were left unnamed. All we know about them from the release is four of the games were unannounced, three were altogether new IPs, and one was a mobile title. The developers shared an official statement on social media as well, apologizing to fans for the cancellation.

The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake was first announced in 2020 during a Ubisoft Forward presentation. It would face several delays over the following years, but last we heard, it was set for release sometime before April 2026. Unfortunately, it seems the game could not outrun its development troubles, even after the game changed studios and Ubisoft Montreal picked up the work in 2022. CEO Yves Guilllemot would go on to share a statement on the cancellation of the Sands of Time remake, as well as discussing how the company will reorganize.

It’s a shame that we won’t get to see The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake come to fruition, but it looks like that’s that for now. Stay tuned to the Ubsioft topic for more news and updates.
