If you ever want to backup your saves in Hollow Knight: Silksong, here's where to find the save file location.

Hollow Knight: Silksong should be a stable experience for all players, but backing up your save is still good practice in case off the odd error or disconnect on either your or Steam’s end. Thankfully, finding Silksong’s save file location isn’t hard. Here’s where it’s located.

How to back up your save file on PC

Silksong shares almost the same save file location as the original Hollow Knight, though it’s not in the usual place. The default location where you can find Silksong’s save file is:

C:\Users\[your Windows username]\AppData\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight Silksong\

There's a subfolder at that location with eight numbers as its name. The save files are located inside, and each save file is named userX.dat, where X is a number between 1 and 4, denoting which save slot the file uses when the game is opened.

If you want to back up your save for safekeeping, the best way to do that is to copy the entire Hollow Knight: Silksong folder in LocalLow and save it elsewhere on your PC. That way, you don’t risk Steam autosaving a corrupted file to the cloud and forcing you to start the game over from scratch.

Note that you will need to repeat the process of backing up your save file periodically, as Steam has no way of creating new data anywhere but its primary file location. A good rule of thumb is to back up your saves after each session, but once or twice a week is a viable option as well.

Dedicate a file on your computer to save backups, if possible. Preferably, you have one on a separate server like a Dropbox or Google Drive, but your main Documents folder on your C drive is also fine.
