Thief: The Dark Project Remastered is the next rework from Nightdive Studios
Nightdive has run the iconic 1998 work of Eidos Interactive and Looking Glass Studios through the KEX Engine to restore and improve Thief.
by TJ Denzer · ShacknewsThe latest rework/remaster project for Nightdive Studios has been revealed and we’re getting a return of Looking Glass Studios and Eidos Interactive’s 1998 stealth-action masterpiece, Thief: The Dark Project. It’s being rebuilt in the KEX Engine for a winter 2026 release on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

As much as the goal is to get Thief: The Dark Project in solid shape for play on modern platforms, Nightdive Studios has also revealed a list of improvements and features that will be coming to the experience, as shared on Steam:
- The pioneering 3D stealth game, remastered using Nightdive’s proprietary KEX Engine.
- Thief: The Dark Project Remastered includes all content from Thief: The Dark Project (12 huge missions with multiple environments) and the Thief: Gold update (3 new missions, which deepen the plot and add five new types of enemies).
- Up to 4K 120FPS visuals.
- Modern gamepad support adds a new weapon wheel, rumble, and motion/gyro controls.
- Achievements
- A Vault filled with a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes.
- Graphic enhancements to textures, models, animations and more. Small fixes to the original level design.
- Quality of life improvements include a weapon and item wheel to quickly select tools and gadgets.
- Replay any mission you have previously completed with a mission selector.
- Built-in support for custom campaigns, enabling access to thousands of hours of additional content.
