Nikita Bier has announced he is stepping down as Head of Product at X. In a post on August 5, 2026, Bier said it’s time to return to his natural state as a poster. “Serving the X community has been the privilege of a lifetime. X is, and will remain, the most important communication technology in history,” Bier wrote in his post. “But running this app is a 24/7 job and it's now time for me to take a breather.”

The announcement goes on to mention that X, formerly Twitter, has seen “unprecedented growth in new users and engagement,” and that the platform continues to “break records every month.” Bier notes that the team launched nearly 30 new products all while “protecting the integrity of the town square.”

Part of this integrity protection is showing the Country-of-Origin on profiles and more defenses against AI bots. This comes at a time when the EU has launched an investigation into X’s AI bot Grok over generative AI image tools. This year has also seen a jury find that Elon Musk misled Twitter (TWTR) investors in the run-up to the $44 billion acquisition.
