Whatchamacallit SMG PvE and PvP god rolls - Destiny 2

The Whatchamacallit is an odd duck of a weapon in Destiny 2, and its PvE and PvP god rolls follow suit.

The Whatchamcallit SMG came with the Monument of Triumph update to Destiny 2, the game’s final major match. Getting a god roll Whatchamacallit is neither easy nor guaranteed, but it can be a PvE powerhouse or a functional PvP weapon with the right setup.

The Whatchamacallit is an odd duck in that it's a four-shot burst Arc SMG with some serious kick. As an Aggressive Burst Frame, that burst is frighteningly fast with a short between-burst delay, so it can deal some serious damage if you can control the recoil.

Our PvE god roll thus wants to rein in its recoil pattern, as well as ensuring it can deal as much damage to as wide a variety of enemies as possible.

Pure Recollection god roll - PvE
BarrelArrowhead Brake (+30 Recoil, +10 Handling)
MagazineRicochet Rounds (+5 Range, +10 Stability)
Perk 1Light Touch (This weapon gains reload speed, handling, and ADS speed when you are amplified, radiant, or have Devour.)
Perk 2Jolting Feedback (Dealing repeated damage inflicts Jolt.)
Origin TraitAccelerated Assault (Dealing sustained damage loads a small amount of ammo from reserves and slightly increases damage.)
MasterworkStability (+10 Stability when maxed out.)
ModBallistics (Up to +7 range and stability when Enhanced.)

The Whatchamacallit is an add clearing specialist, as it lacks many of the high damage perks, or indeed the sheer output, of more specialized options. Our perk choices encourage its use in dealing with trash mobs in between DPS phases while still providing a touch of usability in a damage pinch.

Sadly, the Whatchamacallit is not going to dominate the Destiny 2 PvP scene anytime soon (or ever at this point). It can be a neat way-off-meta pick if you get tired of using the same weapons for the umpteenth time, just know that even with the god roll, you’ll be fighting an uphill battle.

Pure Recollection god roll - PvE
BarrelCorkscrew Rifling(+5 stability, +5 handling, +5 range)
MagazineAccurized Rounds (+10 range)
Perk 1Headseeker (Body shots increase precision damage and aim assist for a short time. Body shots landed while ht perk is active refresh the time.)
Perk 2Bait and Switch (Dealing damage with other two weapons grants this weapon increased damage after a hit for 10 seconds.)
Origin TraitRangefinder (Aiming increases effective range and zoom magnification.)
MasterworkRange (+10 Range when maxed out.)
ModBallistics (Up to +7 range and stability when Enhanced.)

A lot of the usual suspects are here, as we want to make the Whatchamacallit as lethal at the farthest ranges and in the most situations possible. We can’t rely on buffs or other effects that are difficult to keep active in a PvP situation, so we’ve chosen perks that have universally useful passive effects.

How to get the Whatchamacallit

The Whatchamacallit is unique to the Pinnacle Ops playlist and its rotating selection of Exotic missions and high-difficulty arena modes.

Once you’ve received the Whatchamacallit as a drop once from something like Onslaught or an Exotic mission (Oblation: Bloodline, anyone?), you can buy them from Zavala. You’ll need to spend three Vanguard Engrams, three Vanguard Ciphers, and 15,000 Glimmer.

I’d recommend playing the longer activities like Contest of Elders or Onslaught, as there are multiple reward chests beyond the final one you get for completing a match. That way, you can more easily farm the rarer Vanguard Ciphers. You can then spend a few minutes grinding out Solo Ops (or indeed any other Vanguard activity) for the Vanguard Engrams.
