How to get maps, quill, and compass in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Maps can be extremely helpful, but like all things, getting them is not an easy matter. This is who you need to find to start charting your progress.
How to get maps, quill, and compass in Hollow Knight: Silksong
Maps can be bought for Rosaries from Shakra, a character that you will first run into in The Marrow. After you have passed the first settlement, make your way into The Morrow. You will need to make your way up and to the left of the map. There are a lot of jumping platforms and various enemies involved, so you will need to be careful.
The above map will give you a rough idea of where she is, but we also have a video showing the route to reach Shakra below. You will need to have already opened the metal gate just after Bone Bottom to be able to take this route.
When you get close to Shakra, you will hear her singing in the darkness, and she will strike a warrior's stance when you first get close. Have no fear, though, as this is the traditional greeting of her people. Talk to her and you will see all the items that you can purchase.

You should buy both maps and the compass first, as they are the most important items. If you explore the areas you already have access to, you will find plenty of Rosaries, either on enemies or in piles, or hanging from strings from the ceilings of caves and rooms. Shakra will then appear in other areas, and you will need to track her down and buy the map for each area from here.
Where to find Shakra in the Deep Docks
After you make your way through The Marrow and into the Deep Docks, you can only really go in one direction. There will be an elevator that goes up, bringing you to a shrine where you can give 30 Rosaries to form a seat to heal and save, and from where you find the elevator, you can go right, which will bring you to Shakra, who will sell you the Deep Docks map for 50 Rosaries.
