Anthropic partners with SpaceX for compute deal to enable higher Claude usage limits

By utilizing SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center, Athropic will deploy over 300 megawatts of additional capacity for its AI services and products.

Anthropic and SpaceX have announced a compute deal to enable higher usage limits for the Claude AI system. As part of the agreement, Anthropic has “expressed interest in partnering with SpaceX to develop multiple gigawatts of orbital compute capacity.”  

Anthropic announced the details of its deal with SpaceX in a press release on its website this week. Through the deal, Anthropic will utilize all of the compute capacity at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center, which amounts to around 300 megawatts of new capacity for Claude’s purposes.

Through the deal with SpaceX, Anthropic will improve the experience of its AI model Claude for all of its customers, including increasing Claude Code’s five-hour rate limits for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterpise subscribers, and removing peak hours limit reduction for Pro and Max accounts. API rates will also be raised “considerably” for Claude Opus models.

This marks a much-needed win for Anthropic, which has been through the wringer fighting off a blacklisting by the US government after refusing to raise certain restrictions for its use by the Department of Defense.
