Where to get Eccentric Salvage in Marathon

Finding Eccentric Salvage in Marathon is an even bigger dice roll than you normally experience while playing the game. Here's where you can find some.

Contracts in Marathon that ask you to find specific items are always frustrating, and that’s especially true if you’re looking for Eccentric Salvage. Knowing which items to look for cuts the potential grind down a few pegs, and we’ll go over the best places to find such items in this guide.

Eccentric Salage items include:

  • Alien Alloy (yellow Prestige rarity)
  • Shell ID (purple Superior rarity)
  • UESC Obedience Matrix (blue Deluxe rarity)

As Eccentric Loot Items are all of a higher rarity, you'll primarily find them in locations where you’d find other rare items without the Eccentric descriptor: keyed rooms, in-run event containers, Strongboxes, and powerful UESC loot containers. You can also find them as loose loot, but you’ll really want to focus your search if you’re looking to find them quickly.

Of these, the UESC Obedience Matrix is by far the easiest to find. They’re most commonly found in UESC Commander loot containers, but Grenadiers and other blue shielded enemies can also have them. Supply Drop in-run events are another good source, as are UESC Coordinate Caches.

Shell IDs, as their purple rarity would suggest, are much harder to come by. I’ve had the best luck finding them in locked rooms like the one opened by the North Relay Storage Key or Strongboxes in Pinwheel Base on Outpost.

If you’re looking for Alien Alloy, be prepared to work for it. Prestige-rarity items are the cream of the crop (unless you’re considering Compiler loot), and they’re mostly found in hard-to-access Strongboxes, events like Lockdown or Convoy, and other high-value loot sources.

For my money, if you must find Eccentric Salvage for a contract, go bot hunting. Wraith Warden events, Secured Resource hacks, and Outpost Pinwheel runs are all great ways to encounter a load of UESC to destroy. You can, of course, look for the juicer stuff as well.
