Moss developer Polyarc announces studio closure
The developer announced its closure after 12 years of creating acclaimed virtual reality titles like Moss VR.
by Ozzie Mejia · ShacknewsFor more than a decade, Polyarc was recognized as the stewards of one of the most acclaimed series in VR gaming. The Moss series had two mainline titles and a spin-off. More recently, the platformer was given a traditional non-VR adaptation and released across all platforms. All of that was not enough to save the studio, as Polyarc announced that it would be closing its doors.
The following was posted to the Polyarc LinkedIn page:
Today is the end of an era for Polyarc.
After nearly 12 years riding the joyous rollercoaster of emotions that is making video games, our time together has come to an end. As we wind down active development, we are saying our farewells to each other.
Working together over all of these years has been an honor. Bringing surprise and delight to those who played our games has been a privilege. Thank you to everyone at Polyarc, our work is now finished.
The LinkedIn post also contained a spreadsheet of the studio's workers in hopes that they could be hired elsewhere.
Moss followed the tale of a young mouse named Quill, who traveled across a magical world solving puzzles and taking on enchanted foes, all while utilizing cutting-edge VR technology. Even with the series being made primarily for VR, Polyarc did its best to adapt the series to traditional gaming platforms with this year's Moss: The Forgotten Relic. As it turned out, The Forgotten Relic turned out to be the last gasp for the studio and one that wasn't enough to save it.
The Moss games remain available on Steam and other platforms, even as Polyarc closes its doors.
