SpaceX (SPCX) IPO makes Elon Musk the world's first trillionaire
SpaceX stock was up as high as 23 percent on its first day of trading.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsIt’s a historic day for the stock market, as SpaceX (SPCX) launched the largest IPO (initial public offering) ever. That’s not the end of it, either. With SpaceX up in its early hours on the stock market, CEO Elon Musk has officially become the world’s first trillionaire.
The milestone was reported by CNBC, which has been live covering SpaceX’s first day on the stock market. The company opened at $150/share, but quickly grew as high as $168.19. SpaceX stock is up 23 percent on the day at the time of this writing.
With today’s performance, SpaceX is now north of a two trillion valuation. CNBC reported that SpaceX’s IPO added $180 billion to Musk’s wealth, pushing him over the $1 trillion mark. He is the first person in history to amass such wealth.
SpaceX officially made its IPO filing back in May. It’s just the first in what is expected to be a series of major IPOs, as OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Anthropic (Claude) both made similar filings this month.
