Ouster Engine PvE and PvP god rolls - Destiny 2

The Ouster Engine could easily become your next favorite Grenade Launcher in Destiny 2 with the right god rolls for PvE and PvP.

Area Denial Frame Grenade Launchers, like the Ouster Engine, have been some of the best passive damage dealers in Destiny 2 since their introduction. With the right god roll in your hands, reaching higher DPS numbers is a click away.

Area Denial Frame Grenade Launchers are designed almost entirely for PvE, as the enemies you’re shooting toward don’t have the wherewithal to get out of the damage field. And if you’re a Stasis enjoyer — or want some Darkness damage to fuel a Prismatic build — the Ouster Engine could serve admirably.

Ouster Engine god roll - PvE
Launcher BarrelVolatile Launch (greatly increased blast radius, -5 velocity, -5 handling)
MagazineHigh-Velocity Rounds (+10 velocity, +10 reload speed)
Perk 1Auto-Loading Holster (While hostered, this weapon is automatically reloaded after a short period.)
Perk 2Chaos Reshaped (This weapon gains bonus damage when in combat for an extended period. Being in combat even longer gives a larger damage bonus and periodically heals the user.)
Origin TraitProblem Solver (Sustained damage to a Champion, boss, or miniboss exhausts them and grants handling and reload speed. Exhausted enemies deal less outgoing damage.)
MasterworkBlast Radius (+10 blast radius when maxed out.)
ModAbundant Ammo (Slightly increases ammo generation.)

Auto-Loading Holster is a classic for a reason. While there are several good alternate perk choices, the utility of rarely needing to reload can’t be overstated. Chaos Reshaped, for its part, is just better Frenzy, and the perk even heals you after enough time passes. Diabolical stuff.

Ouster Engine PvP god roll

To say the Ouster Engine is useless in PvP is probably going a bit too far, as you can surprise a group of Guardians taking a point or otherwise block passage through an enclosed area. You won’t get much help from the weapon’s perk pool, however, so we’ll be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Ouster Engine god roll - PvP
BarrelVolatile Launch (greatly increased blast radius, -5 velocity, -5 handling)
MagazineHigh-Velocity Rounds (+10 velocity, +10 reload speed)
Perk 1Auto-Loading Holster (While hostered, this weapon is automatically reloaded after a short period.)
Perk 2Vorpal Weapon (Increased damage against bosses, vehicles, or Guardians in their Super.)
Origin TraitVanguard Determination (After using your class ability, final blows grant bonus damage resistance.)
MasterworkBlast Radius (+10 blast radius when maxed out.)
ModProjectile Speed (Up to +10 Velocity when Enhanced.)

I’d like to use Rimestealer here, but that requires Stasis Crystals generated on command, and those have better uses in a PvP match than powering a perk on your Special Weapon. That really just leaves Auto-Loading Holster in the first trait slot.

Vorpal Weapon is kind of a stretch in the second trait slot, because if there’s a roaming Super clomping or whooshing its way toward you, a Special grenade launcher will do little to deter them.

How to get the Ouster Engine

There’s no guaranteed way to get the Ouster Engine, but if you Attune it as your chosen Pinnacle Ops drop, you have a much better chance of getting one from those activities. I’d always recommend doing Pinnacle Ops activities you can do quickly, like any of the Oblation Exotic missions or Kell’s Fall matches.
