How to heal in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hornet, heal thy wounds.

It should come as little surprise to learn that Hollow Knight: Silksong is a challenging game, just like the original. If you have been getting knocked around down in the depths and are wondering how to heal yourself, then this is how to do it.

The main way to heal yourself is via a mechanic called Bind. As you fight enemies, a small bar that looks like a spool of thread under your health bar will fill up. When it is full, you can perform Bind by hitting A on your controller on Xbox, X on PlayStation, or B on Nintendo Switch.

The spool of thread will be consumed, healing you for any missing health, ot a maximum of three health bar segments. The entire spool is used, no matter how much health you have missing, so the risk/reward kicks in as you should ideally wait until you are low health with a full spool to use the heal. If you take damage during the animation, you will not receive any healing, and still use the entire bar, while also taking fresh damage from the enemy who struck you. The healing animation is quite quick, however, so it's all about timing it right.

Every time you hit an enemy, the spool of thread will fill a little more, and you can only heal when it is full. If you try to heal before that, you will hear a dull noise and the spool will shake on the screen, indicating that something is wrong.

The other way to heal is to rest at benches that can be found throughout the game. These can show up just when you need them the most, and it can be worth exploring beyond your comfort level, as there might be a healing bench waiting for you at the end of the next tunnel, or at the top of the next platform.  These will serve as save points, so always sit and rest when you see one. They will heal missing health, but not grant any charge in your spool of thread.
