This last weekend, Epic Games announced that it has launched the Epic Games Store, along with Fortnite and Rocket League Sideswipe, on iOS devices in Japan. The apps are available to download now on iPhones and iPads.

This announcement came via a news post on Epic Games’ website. The move comes after Japan passed the Mobile Software Competition Act (MSCA) in December 2025, which prohibits hardware companies from restricting third-party app stores and alternative payment methods on mobile devices in the region. That opened the way legally for Epic Games to launch its Store app in Japan, which then allows players to access Fortnite and Sideswipe by extension.

Epic Games has continued to push back against Google and Apple on mobile regions worldwide since Epic goaded Apple and Google into banning Fortnite from its ecosystems, setting off a lengthy court battle on which Epic Games has spent an enormous amount of money to loosen Google and Apple’s restrictions on third-party app stores and payment options. Epic Games also just cut around 1,000 employees in relation to cost cuts which were almost certainly influenced by its legal costs.

Nonetheless, Japanese mobile players can now download and play Fortnite on iOS devices. Stay tuned to the Epic Games topic for more updates and news.
