Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is the series' first Nintendo Switch 2 title

Call of Duty's long-promised return to Nintendo platforms is finally around the corner.

On Thursday, Activision unveiled the next installment of its annual Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is making its way to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, one of the most noteworthy items in today's announcement is that the game will also make its way to Nintendo Switch 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's Nintendo Switch 2 version is being designed natively for Nintendo's console. Infinity Ward will have a hand in its development, but the team is also banding together with the folks at Digital Legends. Digital Legends has previously assisted in developing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. However, it should be noted that this is also one of the studios behind Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile.

Modern Warfare 4 will be the first Call of Duty title to release on the Switch series of consoles. It will also mark the first title in Microsoft's 10-year commitment to bring the COD series to Nintendo platforms. That announcement was made by former Xbox CEO Phil Spencer back in December 2022, presumably as a way to alleviate monopoly concerns regarding Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard. This will be the first Call of Duty title to release on a Nintendo console since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Nintendo Wii U.
