As the Moment of Silence initiative enters its third decade, we are grateful to see how this important effort has continued to grow, both nationally and internationally.

A Growing Presence in Public Schools
Five states—Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, and Kentucky—as well as a district in Alaska, have adopted requirements for a daily Moment of Silence in public schools.

These legislative achievements are the culmination of years of dedicated effort, spearheaded by Rabbi Avraham Frank, who drafted the legislation in collaboration with colleagues and worked closely with elected officials to advance it through the various stages of the legislative process. Devoted shluchim, community members, and politicians also played important roles in bringing these efforts to fruition. The legislation governing implementation also reflects the Rebbe’s desire for parental involvement in this daily practice.

Reaching Students Around the World
The initiative has also reached beyond the United States. The Moment of Silence is being practiced in certain schools in Papua New Guinea, Israel, Uganda, and Kenya, extending its reach to students in diverse communities around the world.

A Book That Shares the Impact
Another milestone has been the publication of A Moment of Silence by Avraham Frank, featuring written testimonials from children describing the positive impact that the Moment of Silence has had on their daily lives.

“A moment of silence means that I can think of the people in Trinidad who doesn’t have shoes and clothes.”

This simple expression of concern for others illustrates how a brief moment of quiet can encourage children to consider the needs of those around them.

A Spanish translation has recently become available as well, bringing these children’s reflections to a wider audience. Both editions can be found on Amazon by searching for A Moment of Silence by Avraham Frank.

Looking Ahead in New York City
Here in New York City, we recently met with City Council members who have expressed interest in working with us. They are researching possible ways to collaborate in advancing this initiative.

Donations to support this nonprofit initiative are welcome through our website or via Zelle.

As we look ahead to the years to come, may we be zoche to continue working together to advance this important initiative, one about which the Rebbe spoke with such deep concern and devotion.
