This Hey Teves, You Can Master Hilchos Kashrus for $35
JLI’s groundbreaking, user-friendly Halachah guide offers an unparalleled level of clarity and comprehensive detail, making it every home’s definitive guide to everyday hilchos kashrus.
by COLlive Editor · COLliveAs Anash communities worldwide prepare to celebrate Hey Teves, JLI has announced a significant pivot, releasing a major Halachic work for the Chabad home. The first in a new series titled Living Jewish, The Complete Guide to Keeping Kosher is a groundbreaking volume now available for order at a special Hey Teves price of $35, offering a level of clarity and comprehensive detail previously unavailable in English-language Halachic literature.
JLI is renowned for producing curricula for shluchim to reach broad audiences. This marks their first foray into a new arena. Their new book serves as every Chabad home’s definitive overview of hilchos kashrus, covering the nitty-gritty of modern kitchens with rigorous precision while remaining visually accessible.
It’s too easy to rely on Halachos we learned long ago. The specific nuances of Halachah—especially regarding modern appliances and less-frequent kitchen scenarios—can sometimes blur over time. The Complete Guide to Keeping Kosher is designed to deliver mastery rather than just a refresher, enabling families to navigate their kitchens with absolute confidence and close any gaps in practical knowledge—with guidance on how to kasher a kitchen, for example.
Authored over four years by Rabbi Berel Polityko, a moreh hora’ah in Airmont, NY, alongside Rabbi Meir Kerzner and Rabbi Mendy Goldberg, the entire project was produced under the direct guidance of JLI curriculum codirector Rabbi Mordechai Dinerman and Rabbi Mordechai Farkash, mara de’asra in Seattle, WA.
The result has drawn resounding praise from leading Chabad rabbonim. Rabbi Yosef Braun of the Crown Heights beis din noted that the volume enables “every Jewish home to know practically what to do, how to practice hilchos kashrus every step of the way.” Dayan Levi Yitzchok Raskin, mara de’asra for the Chabad community of London, England, was “duly impressed with the scope of the work,” noting that it “will certainly help expand the observance of kashrus and boost Jewish life overall.”
Unlike dense, text-heavy manuals, this volume uses JLI’s signature educational assets—custom illustrations, decision charts, and clear definitions—to make the complex easy to understand. Rabbi Gedalia Oberlander, mara de’asra in Kingston, PA, described the layout as “set like a table,” with every din accessible and “visually pleasing.” Rabbi Boruch Hertz, mara de’asra of the Chabad community in Chicago, asserted that the book offers “total clarity,” stating, “I have yet to see something so clear and organized and yet, at the same time, so full of content.” Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov, rav of Chevra Ahavas Achim and moreh hora’ah in Crown Heights, described the book as “packed with piskei halachos explained clearly, pleasantly, and logically.”
