by COLlive Editor · COLliveThe vibrant energy of summer is officially back as Camp Gan Israel Hillside opened its doors last Wednesday, welcoming a wave of excited campers for its highly anticipated second year. Following a stellar inaugural season, the camp has scaled up significantly, marking this summer with high volume, expanded programs, and an incredible buzz across the community.
To accommodate the soaring number of campers, CGI Hillside has stepped up its operations by renting the local Elizabeth Public School facility for the summer. This expansive campus provides the perfect backdrop for a summer filled with growth, friendship, and non-stop fun.
Campers are already enjoying top-tier amenities and a packed schedule, including: Refreshing Pool Days: Beating the summer heat at the local community pool, Thrilling Trips: A dynamic lineup of excursions designed to keep every division engaged and Seamless Transportation: Safe and reliable travel provided via the Elizabeth Board of Education school buses.
The smooth launch and high-energy atmosphere are a direct result of the dedicated leadership steering the ship. CGI Hillside is proudly led by directors Mrs. Sara Gilla Gutnik and Mrs. Mussie Zakheim, whose vision has shaped the camp into a premier summer destination.

The incredible success and scale of CGI Hillside would not be possible without the vital support of local leaders and visionaries. The camp administration extends its heartfelt appreciation to Rabbi and Rebbetzin Kanelsky for their unwavering guidance and support.
A special acknowledgment is also extended to the civic leaders who recognized the value of the camp’s mission and facilitated the use of the city’s excellent resources: Mr. J. Christian Bollwage, Mayor of Elizabeth and Mrs. Dr. Olga Hugelmeyer, Superintendent of Elizabeth Schools.
Thanks to their collaborative efforts, the children of CGI Hillside have a safe, state-of-the-art facility to call home this summer.
With the first week already a resounding success, CGI Hillside is gearing up for an unforgettable season ahead, building a bright Jewish future-one happy camper at a time.
