by COLlive Editor · COLliveThis summer, Machon L’Yahadus held its first-ever 10-Day Summer Program. The program was created for college students and young women who wanted to dedicate time to Jewish learning but only have the opportunity during their summer break.
The 10 days were packed with learning, growth, new experiences, and a lot of fun.
Mornings were spent in classes, including ‘Tanya’ with Rabbi Shloma Majeski, ’39 Do’s of Shabbos’ with Mrs. Nemni, and ‘Her Story: Women in the Bible’ with Mrs. Yehudis Cohen, along with many other classes covering practical Judaism, Chassidus, hebrew skills and Jewish life.
In the afternoons, the learning continued outside the classroom. The young women experienced Jewish living firsthand, toured state-of-the-art The Mikvah in Crown Heights, traveled to the Bowery to hear from shlucha and Machon alumna Sara Korn about her life and shlichus, tried on wigs at Sheeba Wigs and went “out of Egypt” via the Escape Room at JCM.
The program followed the model of Machon L’Yahadus’ successful 12-Day Winter Program, with a summer twist. The group hiked in the beautiful nature of upstate New York followed by a BBQ, toured some of New York City’s main attractions, and had the opportunity to experience Crown Heights and Jewish life from the inside.
When the students reflected on the program, one of the things they appreciated most was being surrounded by other women who were also sincerely interested in learning, asking questions, and growing in their Yiddishkeit.
“My time at the summer program was so special. Having the opportunity to dedicate time to enhance my Jewish knowledge and Yiddishkeit with other amazing women on their baal teshuva journeys was invaluable!”- Annie Lawrence, Chicago, IL
For 10 days, the students had the chance to step away from their regular schedules and immerse themselves in an environment centered around learning and growth, while building friendships with other young Jewish women on similar journeys.
Machon L’Yahadus is already building on the success of its first summer program with plans for a long weekend program for college students. This will give more young women the opportunity to learn in a immersive Jewish learning environment.
If you know any young Jewish women interested in learning and growing in her Judaism feel free to contact us or share our contact information.
