24 Hour Livestream on the Rebbe’s Father’s Yartzeit

Live beginning Sunday night at 9:00 PM ET: Bais Levi Yitzchak of Pomona's worldwide livestream and building campaign give Chassidim everywhere the opportunity to fulfill the Rebbe's request to both study the Torah of Harav Levi Yitzchak and strengthen institutions that bear his name.

Every year on Chof Av, Lubavitchers around the world mark the yahrtzeit of Harav Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, the Rebbe’s father. The Rebbe encouraged Chassidim to commemorate the day in two powerful ways: by studying Harav Levi Yitzchak’s Torah and by strengthening institutions that bear his name.

This year, Bais Levi Yitzchak in Pomona is giving people around the world the opportunity to do both.

On Sunday evening, beginning at 9:00 PM on Or L’Chof Av, the shul will host a Live Farbrengen with Rabbi Yossi Paltiel and will continue through Monday with an ongoing livestream of shiurim in Reb Levik’s Torah, led by speakers and mashpi’im from the Beis Levi Yitzchak community. At the same time, the community is working to complete the new Bais Levi Yitzchak building before Rosh Hashanah, inviting people everywhere to partner in finishing a mosad that proudly carries Harav Levi Yitzchak’s name.

The idea is especially fitting because Bais Levi Yitzchak has always been about much more than a building.

Nine years ago, a small group of Lubavitch families in Pomona came together with a simple goal: to create a place where people would love to daven, learn, and spend time together.
Led by Refoel Huisman, Yossi Wolfson and Maimon Kirschenbaum, Bais Levi Yitzchak began in a basement. When it began, they knew they wanted a serious Anash community but they didn’t realize how quickly it would grow. Under the leadership of Rabbi Gourarie, they created a shared vision of an authentic Chassidishe shul where every Yid would feel comfortable walking in, pulling up a chair, and staying awhile.

Over the years, that’s exactly what happened.

Today, BLY has become much more than a place for the three daily tefillos. It’s where people stop in before work to learn a maamar. It’s where chavrusas continue long after Maariv. It’s where children grow up feeling that the shul is part of their home. It’s where guests quickly become familiar faces and first-time visitors often leave saying, “We’ll be back.”

Bais Levi Yitzchak has become a beacon of light for local families; attracting many people to move close by, and acting as a living example of what a Chabad shul could look like.

Over the years, BLY has welcomed many respected mashpi’im and speakers, including Rabbi Ezra Schochet, Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, Rabbi Shmuel Chaim Bluming, Rabbi Gedalye Oberlander, Rabbi Nussi Gurary, Rabbi Tzvi Telzner, Rabbi Mendel Blau, Rabbi Nachmen Wilhelm and Rabbi Shimmy Weinbaum.

They have joined for davening, farbrengens, Seder Niggunim, and shiurim, and many have remarked on the unique atmosphere that fills the shul.

Rabbi Shimmy Weinbaum described it simply: “BLY is pashut a geshmake, Chassidishe shul. It’s like מעין עולם הבא. It’s a magnet that attracts Chassidishe Yidden. I was lucky to spend Shabbos there and see a packed shul in the middle of the summer. They obviously need a much bigger place, and I hope everyone will help them.”

As the community continued to grow, so did the need for more space. More families joined. More children filled the halls. The women’s section became increasingly crowded. Every Yom Tov, every farbrengen, and every community gathering was another reminder that the building had become too small for the community it served.

The new Bais Levi Yitzchak isn’t just about building something bigger. It’s about making room. Room for growing families. Room for women and children. Room for guests. Room for every Yid looking for a place to call home.

With the major construction now complete, the community is working toward opening its doors before Rosh Hashanah. The campaign’s goal of $900,000 is to finish the work needed for the Yamim Noraim can begin in a home built for the vibrant community that has grown around it.
