The Complete Guide to Keeping Kosher, the first volume of JLI’s new Living Jewish series to be published, is already garnering high praise from rabbonim—even as the first edition is weeks away from the 130 communities that have preordered copies.

Rabbi Yosef Braun, member of the beis din and mara de’asra in Crown Heights, noted the tremendous effort that clearly went into the work and praised the result: a book that enables “every Jewish home to know practically what to do, how to practice hilchos kashrus every step of the way.”

“Everything is here, organized, set like a table, with each item noted in its place,” Rabbi Gedalia Oberlander, mara de’asra in Kingston, PA, noted. “It is all presented in clear, vernacular language; it’s visually pleasing and easy to understand.” He applied the pasuk in Daniel “Matzdikei rabim kekochavim le’olam va’ed” to JLI’s work—“Those who guide the public toward righteousness shall stand as stars forever and ever.”

Dayan Levi Yitzchok Raskin, mara de’asra for the Chabad community of London, England, was “duly impressed with the scope of the work,” as well as the “engaging style and built-in stimuli” that aid learning. “Maintaining the standards of kashrus is one of the cornerstones of the Jewish home,” he noted. “This work will certainly help expand the observance of kashrus and boost Jewish life overall.”

Rabbi Boruch Hertz, mara de’asra for the Chabad community of Chicago, IL, has taught hilchos kashrus to high school students and community members for years. Reviewing JLI’s new Living Jewish series, he was impressed by its ability to convey depth and detail with easy clarity. “I have yet to see something so clear and organized and yet, at the same time, so full of content,” he wrote. “If someone who wants to get a full handle on kashrus studies this book, they will get total clarity.”

Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov, rav of Chevra Ahavas Achim and moreh hora’ah in Crown Heights, described the book as “packed with piskei halachos explained clearly, pleasantly, and logically,” adding that, “it includes all the necessary dinim that frequently arise at home, organized and made accessible to all.”

Written over four years by Rabbi Berel Polityko—a halachic expert, author, and moreh hora’ah in Airmont, New York—alongside Rabbi Meir Kerzner and Rabbi Mendy Goldberg, every step of the book’s production was overseen by JLI curriculum co-director Rabbi Mordechai Dinerman and Rabbi Mordechai Farkash, mara de’asra in Seattle, WA.
