by COLlive Editor · COLliveIn a historic milestone for the Lubavitch Youth Organization (Tzeirei Agudas Chabad, Tzach), founded by the Rebbe in 1955, nearly seventy Shluchos from across New York City’s five boroughs, Westchester, and Long Island gathered on Tuesday, Erev Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av, for the organization’s first-ever full-day program dedicated exclusively to Shluchos.
Hosted by Rabbi Mendel and Brocha Teldon at the new Chabad of Mid-Suffolk center, the “Summer Recharge” brought together Shluchos for a day of inspiration, practical learning, personal renewal, and meaningful connection.
The day began with a welcoming Tea Room, giving participants an opportunity to reconnect with longtime friends and meet neighboring Shluchos for the very first time. Throughout the day, attendees took part in a variety of engaging sessions, including Pilates, clay art, sheitel care, healthy-eating tips, and a virtual tour of the Beis Hamikdash.
One of the day’s highlights was an interactive session titled “Let’s Be Real,” in which participants responded to real-life scenarios drawn from the unique experiences of Shlichus. Randomly assigned situations sparked spontaneous discussion, laughter, thoughtful debate, and shared appreciation for the challenges and rewards that accompany life on Shlichus.
Another popular session, “Shlichus Geography,” explored how the nature of Shlichus is shaped by the community it serves—whether in an urban neighborhood, suburb, beach town, or on a college campus. Despite the differing settings, the discussion repeatedly returned to the shared privilege of fulfilling the Rebbe’s mission by bringing Yiddishkeit to fellow Jews, with special emphasis on simchah as an essential ingredient of successful Shlichus.
For women who spend the year opening their homes and hosting others, being the guests themselves was a welcome treat. Beautifully presented gourmet meals catered by Holesome Bagels added to the atmosphere of appreciation and renewal.
The day concluded with a candlelit dinner that opened with words of Torah and ended on a note of warmth and inspiration. Participants departed with renewed strength for their Shlichus, a deepened sense of achdus and ahavas Yisroel, and an even stronger bond with fellow Shluchos united in the Rebbe’s mission.
Rabbi Shlomo Friedman, a member of the Lubavitch Youth Organization’s Board of Directors, noted that the gathering reflected the organization’s ongoing commitment to those on the front lines of Shlichus.
“This inaugural program for our Shluchos recognizes the extraordinary role they play in every aspect of the mission of shlichus. Providing them with an opportunity to recharge, learn from one another, and deepen their sense of camaraderie ultimately strengthens the countless communities they serve throughout the year.”
The event was organized by a dedicated Vaad comprised of Shulamis Blokh (Queens), Rivka Kugel (New York City), Miriam Labkowski (Briarcliff Manor), Rochel Leah Lipszyc (Woodbury), Raizy Metzger (New York City), Gillie Shanowitz (New York City), Sorah Shemtov (Riverdale), Chaya Teldon (Long Island), and Esther Winner (Brooklyn).
