KUCHING (Nov 8): Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) and Social Security Organisation (Socso) has presented some compassionate aid to the families of individuals involved in the regatta tragedy on Oct 18.

On that fateful day, five paddlers from the UKPS team under the Premier’s Department went missing after their boat capsized during a training session for the Sarawak Regatta. Their bodies were recovered two days later.

UKPS deputy director Dato Mohamad Morshidi Mustapha and Sarawak Socso director Tan Phang Chia extended the donations to the next-of-kin of four of the deceased who were present at the event; namely Mohamad Ikhmal Sama’ail, Mohd Afiq Isyamudin Asaari, Mohamad Khairul Bidin, and Muhammad Khairul Hisham Kasturi.

“These contributions reflect the ongoing commitment of UKPS and Socso to alleviate burdens for those in need and to support the development of a more compassionate society.

“UKPS and Socso hope that this support will benefit the families and assist them in their ongoing livelihoods.

“UKPS also wishes to extend its gratitude to all parties involved in the search mission for the victims of the boat tragedy, whether directly or indirectly,” said UKPS in a recent statement.
