KUCHING (April 11): A family in Taman Sentosa, Sri Aman, who lost loved ones in a tragic house fire last month, has received aid and moral support from the Sri Aman Community Welfare and Health Committee.

Committee chairman Gerald Empaling led a delegation to visit the family of Dayang Siti Mahfuzah Abang Mohd Sanwani at their temporary residence on Thursday to check on their well-being following the tragedy.

During the visit, the committee presented assistance in the form of food supplies, stationery and cash contributions to help ease the family’s burden.

Gerals emphasised that beyond material assistance, emotional support is equally important in helping the family remain resilient during this difficult period.

“We remain committed to assisting those in need in Sri Aman and will continue to support the well-being of the community,” he said, adding that such efforts are intended to provide meaningful support to affected families.

The fire, which occurred last month, shocked the Sri Aman community and claimed the life of a nine-year-old boy, who was found on the upper floor of the house.

In the incident, the boy’s grandfather, Abang Mohd Sanwani Abang Haji Amin, 65, who had a leg disability and heart condition, suffered severe burns and later succumbed to his injuries.

Also seriously injured was his daughter, Dayang Khairulnisa Abang Mohd Sanwani, 41, who sustained extensive burns.

Two other victims, Ahmed Alif Firdaus Jaidi, 15, and Anis Natrah Jaidi, 13, suffered burns to their legs.

Dayang Siti Mahfuzah herself sustained burns to her hands and legs while attempting to escape.
