KUCHING (Nov 15): Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine has called for phased upgrades and widening of several village roads in his constituency to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for road users.

When debating the Supply Bill (2025) 2024 at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today, he highlighted that villages with narrow road issues include Kampung Petanak Hulu, Kampung Petanak Hilir, Skim Penempatan Semula Kuala Lama, Kampung Judan, Kampung Penat, Kampung Tellian Hulu, Kampung Sungai Pegei, and Kampung Datuk.

“I also request feedback on the status of proposals for new roads such as Jalan Sebakong, Ulu Sikat to Lubok Bemban, Jalan Tellian Bypass in Mukah, the Kampung Tellian Ulu Road Project with a JKR R1-standard road of about 1.5 km, an Alternative Access Road to Skim Petanak, and the request for a Land Access Agricultural Road to the Rumbia Farm by farmers in Kampung Tellian Tengah,” he added.

For the Ulu Dalat area involving 25 longhouses – 10 in Nanga Baoh and 15 in Ulu Baoh – he stated that a 11-km road project had been approved to connect the two areas.

However, he said the project encountered issues during the implementation phase and could not proceed.

“I raised this issue during the November 2023 session. Therefore, I urge the government to take immediate action so that this project can continue,” Royston stressed.

Meanwhile, he said in the Bukit Inkerbai and Lubok Bemban areas, severe road erosion had occurred due to the strong currents of Batang Mukah and flooding in the Sungai Tajam area.

He said residents are requesting that the road not only be repaired but also upgraded, as the current condition risks cutting off their only access to the main road connecting to urban areas.

“A similar situation exists on the Tingkas Sebakong road, which is low and frequently flooded.

“I again urge the government to take appropriate action on this issue,” said Royston.
