SARIKEI (Dec 15): The Sarikei Unity Run 7.0, organised by the Sarikei District Office, hosted a vibrant crowd of 2,345 participants yesterday.

Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh flagged off the event.

The 10km category recorded 486 competitors, comprising 288 men and 198 women, while the 3km Fun Run registered the largest turnout with 1,859 participants.

Sarikei Resident Datu Micheal Ronnie Langgong noted the event’s consistent growth since 2022.

“The encouraging growth in participation clearly reflects our community’s strong support for programmes that foster unity, healthy living, and togetherness among people of different backgrounds,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.

The festive spirit extended beyond the run.

The inaugural ‘Christmas Breakfast and Fair’ held at Sarikei Civic Centre welcomed many visitors, featuring 60 stalls at the Doremart Christmas Fair.

This provided a valuable platform for local traders to boost their income.

The day was further enlivened by a lineup of side activities, including a pickleball competition, a talent show and an eating contest.
