KUCHING (March 20): A collision between a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at Kampung Selepong Jinggau along Jalan Serian–Sri Aman has left three people dead and five others injured.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) dispatched rescuers from Sri Aman fire station after a distress call was received at 8.30am on Friday.

The collision had caused the MPV to catch fire, completely destroying it in the process.

Its occupants, an adult woman and two boys, escaped with minor injuries.

“However, three victims in the SUV, comprising an elderly man and two women, were pronounced dead at the scene after they were found unconscious.

“Two more victims from the SUV, boys aged six and four, sustained head injuries and were sent to Sri Aman Hospital,” Bomba said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze involving the MPV and carried out clean-up operations at the scene.

The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police for further action, and the operation concluded at 10am.
