MIRI (Dec 19): Petronas donated basic household food assistance to 70 selected recipients from the Baram Hilir area through its Petronas Memacu Kehidupan (Uplifting Lives) Programme on Thursday.

The move was to help the affected families prepare for the upcoming Christmas celebration while easing their daily cost-of-living burden.

The programme which was officiated by political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Dominic Ajang, representing Baram MP Dato Anyi Ngau, also featured a pre-Christmas celebration for the local community.

Speaking at the event, Dominic said the initiative went beyond material aid, reflecting strong humanitarian values and a message that no one should be forgotten, particularly the underprivileged and those in need.

“This is the true spirit of Christmas — a celebration that reminds us of love, sacrifice, and giving without expecting anything in return,” he said, expressing gratitude to Petronas for its continued support to rural communities.

Also present at the event were Senior Manager of SSGP Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd Hazli Kipli; Temenggong Elizabeth Deng; Penghulu Anthony Ngau; Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) Mike Arthur; Marudi District Police Chief DSP Nor Aizan; Chief of the Marudi Fire and Rescue Department Jesbent Jenus; Pemanca Nawan Luhat; KK Johannes Nyipa as well as other village heads from surrounding areas and residents of Kampung Uma Akeh.

The programme, part of Petronas’ ongoing efforts to uplift the lives of local communities, concluded with a simple pre-Christmas celebration, fostering a spirit of unity and goodwill among the recipients and the wider community.
