Keningau Vocational College student represents Malaysia in Taipei

KOTA KINABALU (Nov 17): Laetitia Anwen Ng, a 20-year-old student of Cosmetology programme of Keningau Vocational College, was chosen as a delegate representing Malaysia at 2024 APEC Forum on Women and Youth Empowerment, Taipei, Taiwan, from November 13 to 15, hosted by the Ministry of Education.

Laetitia, along with a lecturer from the same college, Sydney Engelbert, was chosen by the Ministry of Education to attend this global convention in which all 80 delegates were fully funded by the organizer to attend this three-day event that featured world renowned speakers.

The goal of the convention was to elevate the role of women and youth in driving innovation and impactful changes in entrepreneurship, sustainable education and interdisciplinary skill development with the inclusion of the latest technology and sustainable practices.

Other than dialogues, workshops and presentations, the participants also went on a field trip to visit several non-profit organizations and sustainable initiatives.

Laetitia was chosen by the Ministry of Education as a representative for her contribution in youth volunteering namely in community services and hosting leadership camps in Keningau, fundraising and crowdfunding efforts in helping cancer patients and low-income households as well as her active participation in internationalization programmes involving visitors from other countries to Malaysia.

She expressed her delight in being able to take part in the programme which further motivated her to continuously assist the community through civic engagement and volunteering and she planned to launch her own social enterprise where she can use her skills as a beautician.

The college director, Nordin bin Akup, thanked Laetitia and the teacher, Sydney, for their impactful work which earned them the fully-sponsored trip to attend the convention that has further enriched their skillset on how to incorporate the latest elements in entrepreneurship and sustainable development into their initiatives.
