KUCHING (March 20): Hari Raya Aidilfitri is not only a religious celebration or a time for family gatherings, but also plays an important role in strengthening unity and nurturing togetherness among Sarawak’s multiracial communities.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the open house tradition practised during Aidilfitri reflects the spirit of harmony, where people from different backgrounds come together to interact and share in the festivities.

He said the celebration also showcases the uniqueness of a society that lives in peace, mutual respect and appreciation of cultural diversity, which forms a strong foundation for a stable and resilient state.

“Hari Raya is the best time for us to come together once more to share meals, spend time with our families and strengthen ties among members of the community who may have been separated due to daily commitments,” he said in his 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri special address.

Sim added that the spirit of compassion and mutual support displayed during the festive season reflects a caring society that looks out for one another.

“It is not only through financial contributions, but also through a caring attitude and mutual respect that this state continues to be respected and appreciated,” he said.
