KUCHING (Oct 27): UDA Holdings Bhd has received the green light from Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to undertake two development projects in Kota Samarahan and Bintulu.

These projects include a mixed development in Kota Samarahan in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and another in Bintulu, partnering with Hikmah Sarawak.

“Unimas came to see me on their proposal, so I told Unimas to go ahead with UDA to develop the Unimas area, as it is located near Unimas Hospital, which would certainly provide strategic facilities for UDA.

“UDA is also expanding into Bintulu, specifically the Jepak area. We are currently building a bridge, and, InsyaAllah, it will be completed by the end of this year. I thank UDA for its commitment to developing this new area, which I call the ‘Second Wave of Bintulu Development’ in Jepak.

“These developments will significantly impact Sarawak’s economy,” said Abang Johari in his officiating speech at the closing ceremony of Karnival UDA 2024 @ Sarawak, organised by UDA in collaboration with the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), at Galeri Jualan @ Tapak Projek Neu Pendington, Jalan Datuk Marican Salleh here today.

Earlier, UDA president and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Salem Kailany shared that UDA is in discussions with Unimas for the mixed development project in Kota Samarahan and with Hikmah Sarawak for a similar project in Bintulu.

He said that UDA began its collaboration with SEDC in 2022 for the joint development of Neu Pendington through UDA Land (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd.

“The unique name ‘Neu Pendington’ combines ‘Neu’, representing renewal, with ‘Pendington’, inspired by the area’s original name, ‘Pending’, and the London locale of ‘Paddington’,” he said.

The phased development project includes 594 residential units and 190 commercial units, offering a variety of price options for apartments and commercial units in Phase 1, making it appealing to a wide demographic.

Located strategically, the development will include direct access to the SR12 – Pending (Red Line) Automated Rail Transit (ART) Station, enhancing its appeal to buyers and investors.

Additionally, a retail block and a 12-storey hotel with 168 rooms will also be developed.

“Hopefully, this collaboration can continue for future developments and open opportunities for partnerships with other government-linked agencies and companies.

“…I extend my highest appreciation and gratitude to the Premier and SEDC for all the support and trust given to UDA. May the Neu Pendington development create and inclusive community environment, in line with UDA’s branding: LIFE, which stands for Legacy, Integrated, Finesse, and Enrich.

“I hope this effort will help the Sarawak government accelerate development in Sarawak and contribute to empowering the Madani Economy,” he added.

The ceremony also witnessed the official opening of the sales gallery, marked by a plaque-signing ceremony officiated by Abang Johari.
