SIBU (April 11): The Sibu Eng Ann Teng Tua Peh Kong Temple Charitable Trust has contributed five units of dialysis machines, valued at RM250,000, to the Sibu Kidney Foundation (SKF) to support the delivery of renal care services in the region.

The machines were handed over by the trust’s deputy chairman Soon Choon Kui to SKF chairman Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau during a ceremony held here yesterday.

Lau hailed the contribution as marking the trust’s largest donation to date, having previously donated one dialysis machine on two separate occasions.

He said the additional machines would significantly enhance SKF’s capacity to meet growing demand.

“Over more than 30 years of operation, SKF has had to replace ageing equipment that could no longer be serviced.

“Contributions such as this are crucial in ensuring continuity and quality of care,” he said.

SKF currently serves 112 patients, with applications still being received and a waiting list in place, underscoring the need to expand dialysis capacity through additional shifts and stations

Lau also highlighted that public support, in both cash and in-kind contributions, has played a vital role in sustaining SKF’s operations and enabling the foundation to provide affordable dialysis treatment.

“We are committed to maintaining stringent standards in delivering quality care,” he said.

“Our aim is to ensure that patients receive the best possible treatment,” he added, while expressing hope that more organisations would follow the example set by the charitable trust in supporting healthcare initiatives for the community.

Beyond treatment services, SKF continues to engage communities through outreach programmes, including health talks and basic screening initiatives, to raise awareness on kidney health.

“Any organisations that wish to invite us to give talks or do some kind of tests – we are ever ready to do that,” said Lau.

Trustee member Tan Boo Chiang also spoke at the ceremony.

Also present were SKF Board of Trustees secretary Wong Siew Ing and SKF manager April Wong.
