KUCHING (Sept 20): The new and efficient Sarawak Traffic Light Intelligent Logistic Excellence (STILE) system at the LePaPa intersection in Sri Aman has provided road users with a smooth and safe traffic experience, especially during festivities such as the recent Malaysia Day celebrations.

Chinese community leader Temenggong Kueh Aik Seng said the STILE system is not only the first of such system in Sri Aman, but also the first in Sarawak and East Malaysia.

“This system uses advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology to adjust traffic lights based on real-time data analysis, significantly reducing vehicle congestion and waiting times, especially during peak traffic hours and major events.

“According to official data, Sri Aman is an area with a daily traffic flow of up to 15,000 vehicles and has long faced severe traffic pressure. The successful implementation of the STILE system marks a crucial step in enhancing urban mobility and road safety in Sarawak,” he said in a statement.

He pointed out that since the implementation of the system, the roads in Sri Aman have become safer and more efficient, thus providing a more convenient travel environment for the people.

“In the past, the old traffic system caused residents to take 45 minutes to cover a distance of just five kilometres.

“However, with the introduction of the STILE system at the LePaPa intersection, traffic congestion has been reduced by around 25 per cent,” he said.

Kueh said plans are underway for four other intersections in Sri Aman to be equipped with this smart system soon.

“We are eagerly looking forward to a future with smoother traffic in Sri Aman,” he added.

He hoped the government would also enhance the main road from Temuduk to Sri Aman town centre, so as to further optimise the traffic network.

“This will not only benefit the residents of Sri Aman but also provide a more convenient travel experience for visitors and travelers,” he said.
