Singer Stacy Anam nearly misses first vote after MyKad mishap
by Jegathisan Sivanesan · Borneo Post OnlineKOTA KINABALU (Nov 29): Malaysian singer Stacy Anam nearly missed voting this afternoon due to nervousness; she forgot her MyKad (IC).
“I was probably too nervous today, and I slept late last night, so I didn’t even bring my wallet when I left home,” she quipped.
She explained that her IC was actually in her mother’s car.
“My mother took my IC to the bank yesterday, and I didn’t check it myself.
“Luckily, the car was parked near the polling station, and it only took about five minutes,” she said.
Stacy, who returned to her alma mater, St Michael’s Secondary School in Penampang, to vote, said that she left school before completing her Form 5 studies, making this return particularly meaningful.
As a first-time voter, she described her feelings as a mix of anticipation and nervousness, like waiting for the final score of a football match.
“I often couldn’t vote before because of work, children, or scheduling conflicts. This time, I finally had the opportunity to cast my first vote,” she said.
She admitted that she regretted not voting in the past, but now, having participated in person, she has a deeper understanding of the importance of voting.
“Every vote can bring about change; this is the moment when the people truly have power,” she said.
When asked about her expectations for future elected representatives, Stacy stated that regardless of the party the winners come from, she hopes they understand their responsibilities as representatives of the people.
She emphasised that regardless of party affiliation, the most important thing is for the people to unite, and especially not to let politics damage their relationships.
She believes that language and culture are the bonds that unite Sabahans.
“We are a diverse ethnic group, but the language we speak and the culture we share unite us.
“Politics is merely a means of expressing our voices; it shouldn’t cause us to argue and divide each other. I believe Sabahans will not become like that,” she said.
On another note, Stacy also revealed that she and her family plan to semi-reside in Sabah soon, traveling between Sabah and Kuala Lumpur.
“Most of my family is here in Kota Kinabalu. We often take turns flying back and forth, so we plan to spend more time developing our careers in Sabah,” she said.
