KUCHING (Nov 29): A total of 150 secondary school students took part in combustion science experiments as part of the ‘Petronas Powering Knowledge: Discover Petronas @Schools Reach Out Gedong’ programme.

Petronas in a release said the programme offered an engaging and interactive learning experience for students.

“Through the ‘Combustion Show’ presented by Petrosains, students explored the combustion triangle, which demonstrates the three essential elements required to start a fire: fuel, oxygen, and heat.

“Each element was visually illustrated, and the interactions between them were demonstrated, showing how a fire ignites and how it can be extinguished,” it said.

Additionally, students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning, constructing solar-powered fans and scrubbing machines using basic materials and simple electrical circuits.

Petronas explained that the programme was designed to inspire students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as in Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The initiative also featured motivational talks on career prospects within the oil and gas industry.
Moreover, Petronas showcased its education sponsorships under the ‘Powering Knowledge’ initiative through career-sharing sessions with past scholars, reinforcing its commitment to fostering future talent.

The programme was launched by Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment advisor Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais.

Petronas had earlier this month conducted similar outreach programmes in Miri and Kapit, reaching a total of 335 students and teachers.
