Multiracial crowd flocks to Sibu Malay-Melanau community leader’s Aidilfitri open house

SIBU (March 21): People from all walks of life thronged Malay-Melanau community leader Temenggong Dato Sri Wan Hamid Edruce’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Jalan Jasmin here on Saturday.

Joining the joyous occasion was Sibu Division Chinese Community Leaders Association, led by its president Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau.

Others included Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) led by its president Datuk Lau Cheng Kiong and United Chinese Association (UCA) Sibu led by its president Ngieng Hock Teck.

Meanwhile, Wan Hamid’s son, councillor Syed Hamzah Wan Hamid Edruce, expressed his appreciation for the strong turnout from well-wishers and visitors representing diverse communities.

He said such open house gatherings help strengthen bonds and unity among Sibu’s multiracial population.

Syed Hamzah also thanked all who attended the event.

“I would like to wish a happy Hari Raya Aidilfitri to the Muslim community in Sibu and all other ethnic groups.

“And also, thank you for visiting us, especially Temenggong Lau and Pemanca Datuk Jason Tai, as well as members of the Chinese community who came today,” he said.

Members of the public were seen greeting Wan Hamid, taking photos and enjoying a variety of festive dishes prepared for the occasion during the open house.
