MIRI (Nov 16): Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin today called local supermarkets to be more involved in the government’s ‘Jualan Rahmah’ programme.

The Senadin assemblyman said for his constituency, the programme is carried out monthly in a bid to reduce financial burden on consumers amidst the ongoing cost of living.

“Today is the 11th time we conducted the Jualan Rahmah programme in my constituency. Previously, we held it in Senadin, Tudan as well as Permyjaya and this time around, we carry it out at MDS Freshmart in Riam so our constituents here can buy selected items at cheaper prices,” he said after a walkabout at the programme held at MDS Freshmart, Riam earlier today.

He added it was also the second time this programme was held at MDS Freshmart, hence he hoped more supermarkets would take part so as to reach out to a wider community.

“This programme is well-received by the people. One of the consumers I met this morning said that she had been waiting at the entrance since 7.30am.

“They can get some of the items such as rice, flour and sugar at a cheaper price, basically with an average of 30 per cent discount,” he said.

Also present were Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Miri branch head Thomas Chua and councillor Jeffery Phang.
