Keningau students visit Seoul to strengthen technology and skill transfer

The Keningau Vocational College lecturers and students at the iconic Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul.

KOTA KINABALU (Sept 22): A group of 14 students aged 16 to 20 and six lecturers from Keningau Vocational College (KVC), Sabah, embarked on an educational and cultural trip to South Korea from September 11 to 20.

The program known as 2024 Gaja! Korea 2.0 K-TVET Adventure was made possible by the ongoing collaboration between the college with Seoul Technical High School which started in 2017.

The delegation visited renowned institutions in the country namely Yonsei University, UNESCO-APCEIU, Seoul Technical High School, Seocho School of Cultural Arts and Information, and Daedong Middle School which gave the students and teachers an immersive experience on STEM and TVET learning.

They took part in hands-on cultural activities and sports that are popular in South Korea such as donning the Korean traditional clothes and playing dodgeball games. They also had the chance to visit some of the famed tourist attractions including Nami Island, Gyeongbokgung Palace and Pohang Space Walk.

The six lecturers were Roseanne Nelson, Brenda Silah, Anita Yasin, Sydney Engelbert, Khalifa Affnan and PJ Ape while the students were Laetitia Anwen Ng, Zein Bin Azmi, Craig Wilhem, Ad Azwanwell, Avy Chascy Teo, Angela Rusli, Audrey Georgina, Nadiirah Naquyyah, Danish Shah, Bevanny Adelia, Nur Dhaniyah Ag Musdi, Jericho Eleus, Jeovahn Pj Ape and Elisha Carmen Erick.

The delegation leader and the coordinator of the project, Khalifa Affnan, underscored the role of first-hand experience in technology and skill transfer pertaining to STEM and TVET disciplines which this trip could provide to the participating educators and students.

He is determined to transform this trip which was the first he coordinated since the pandemic as an annual programme.

The college director, Nordin bin Akup, expressed his full support to the initiative taken by these teachers and students in accelerating the transfer of skillset related to the emerging technology.

He believed that this undertaking can ensure the relevance and adaptability of the college to the rapidly evolving digital trends.
