KUCHING (Oct 11): Non-governmental organisation Hope Place Kuching recently received sponsorship from Ibraco Berhad for the 11th edition of its Charity Without Borders programme, scheduled from Dec 12 to 15 in Sungai Silat, Ulu Baram.

Hope Place in a release said the annual initiative aims to provide vital health screening and food aid to the villages there, while fostering knowledge-sharing through essential skills training.

It said since its inception in 2013 under the leadership of Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan, Charity Without Borders has attracted support from various parties, including government agencies and corporate bodies.

“This collaboration reflects a collective commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents in remote areas,” said Hope Place.

The upcoming programme will see participants embark on a challenging 12-hour journey to Sungai Silat via four-wheel-drives, facilitated by a partnership between Hope Place and Kelab Cabaran Pacuan 4 Roda Bintulu.

“This joint venture includes members from Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei, showcasing a united front in humanitarian efforts,” said the NGO.

In addition to health services, the programme will feature hands-on training for villagers on crucial skills such as proper fire extinguisher use and safety measures for solar lighting.

These initiatives aim to enhance safety and self-sufficiency within the communities served, it added.

Furthermore, volunteers from a Bintulu salon will provide complimentary haircuts, adding a personal touch to the charity event and fostering community spirit.

Hope Place said this ongoing commitment to uplifting underserved communities not only addresses their immediate health and safety needs, but also empowers residents with knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.
