BELAGA (Nov 30): The upgrading project of the logging road to Metalun resettlement area (Phase 6) is expected to be completed within 30 months, said Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon.

He said once completed, the road will benefit the longhouse residents along the road as well as students and teachers of SK Metalun.

“This is a long-awaited upgrading project in the Murum Dam – Metalun resettlement area,” he said at the project’s ground-breaking ceremony on Friday.

In his speech, Chukpai also expressed appreciation and gratitude to the Kapit Public Works Department (JKR) for inviting him to officiate the meaningful event, as well as to the Penan community in the Tegulang and Metalun areas.

“The implementation of this project is highly significant in realising the hopes of the Metalun residents for a better road network and connecting more rural areas towards economic growth,” he explained.

Chukpai also hoped that this route would facilitate the daily activities of the community in the area, particularly access for students to SK Metalun and others.

He was also informed that the road project will connect longhouses and SK Metalun over a distance of 11.3 kilometres.

He hoped that the project would proceed smoothly and be completed according to the required standards.
