Car‑lorry collision in Matu leaves two children dead, driver injured
by conny banji · Borneo Post OnlineMATU (March 15): Two children were killed in a collision involving a car and a lorry at KM36 of Jalan Beruan Mapal Pergau here on Saturday.
Matu-Daro district police chief DSP Rahim Mihos said the accident, which occurred around 12.30pm, involved a lorry driven by a 40-year-old man and a car driven by a 60-year-old man who was travelling with two child passengers aged six and eight.
“Preliminary investigations found that the car, which was travelling from Daro towards Pantai Bruan, is believed to have veered into the opposite lane before colliding with a lorry coming from Igan towards Daro.
“The impact of the crash caused severe damage to the front portion of the car, and the driver sustained serious head injuries before being rushed to Daro Hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement.
Rahim added that the two children travelling in the car were pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from Daro Hospital at about 1.56pm.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
