Gap’s Khaki Trousers Are the On-Trend, Polished Alternative to Denim Everyone Is Wearing in Early Fall

Last week's rainy weather may have temporarily reunited us with our jeans after months of wearing summer dresses and solely summer dresses, but a word to the wise—don't get used to being back in denim just yet. With an ever-fluctuating forecast making getting dressed each morning decidedly tricky, a day spent in jeans often has us overheating, the morning's deceptive grey clouds leaving us ill-equipped to handle temperatures in the mid-twenties come lunchtime.

And it seems we're not the only ones struggling to navigate new season dressing. We've noticed the street style set, too, has ditched denim in favor of a more lightweight yet seasonally-suitable alternative. Yep, all of the coolest fashion girlies are currently championing the perfect trouser trend for tackling early fall with sartorial ease: khaki colored trousers. This week alone, LTK creator posts featuring khaki trousers are up by +500%, all but confirming this is the only autumn trouser trend to know.

Commonly crafted from cotton and lyocell, with silhouettes varying between straight, wide and balloon-leg shapes, khaki trousers function both as a practical alternative and (crucially) a stylish one. With an inherently utilitarian feel associated with the moody green color palette and dark beige colors, many designs often straddle the cargo pants category too.

There's really no right or wrong option to go for in terms of cut. The key to nailing this trend is all in the color, so stick to shades of moss, brown, and army.
