Will the VMAs Be Back in 2027? Execs Are in “Crisis Meetings”

The VMAs delivered a handful of major moments this year, including Madonna’s celeb-packed opening number, Taylor Swift debuting the “Patient Zero” video, GENER8ION and Yung Lean’s performance of “Storm” going completely viral, and Raye’s incredible vocals on “Where Is My Husband!”

But the general consensus among viewers? The show, overall, played it a little safe, and many of the nominated celebrities didn’t even show up. And apparently producers are ready to make some changes.

The Sun reports that execs “were furious about the show,” and a source tells the outlet that they’re “not happy to put it lightly. Parts of last night was embarrassing. They couldn’t book big names besides the few A-listers they heavily featured.”

“There is already a discussion over how next year will be handled but the show certainly cannot go on like this and they know it,” the insider adds. “Airing it on CBS as well as MTV was not a creative choice. They did it out of necessity to get more viewers after lower ratings in recent years.”

Unfortunately, airing the show on CBS created a major delay thanks to the preceding football game running half an hour late. Meanwhile, the show itself started on time, which meant clips were being uploaded to social media while viewers at home were still watching football.

Execs are allegedly locked in “crisis meetings” this week to “figure out what the hell happened this year and to fix it so it doesn’t go that badly ever again,” so stay tuned?
