September Fashion Week is in full swing here in New York City. Designers are currently busy showcasing their Spring/Summer 2027 collections, but I gotta say, the streets outside the shows are putting on a pretty good fashion show of their own. Editors, influencers, industry folks, and the city’s best-dressed are out and about in the Big Apple, flexing their style chops—and let me tell you, people did not come to play.

And of course, I’ve been taking notes. Because while the runways are looking ahead to next year’s sunny season, the street scene is serving up plenty of ideas for what to wear right now for fall. From fringe and burgundy to unexpected styling tricks and color combos, these NYFW street style outfits are exactly what you need to get that effortlessly cool-girl look you’ve been aspiring to achieve.

I’ve been seeing more and more fringe lately, and my boho-loving heart is very much here for it. What I’m really obsessed with right now, though, is seeing people have fun with the trend, rather than sticking to the earthy vibe it’s typically associated with. This look takes fringe in a totally different direction with a rocker-meets-Western feel, pairing it with white boots and a teal clutch.

Seeing argyle for fall isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it’s the way people are wearing it that feels new. It’s less strictly preppy and more edgy and unexpected. Wear it with a collared shirt underneath and a long leather skirt for a fun, modern take on the polished moment. Or pair it with lace-trimmed shorts and a strappy heel for a flirtier, more fashion-forward look.

As a gal who usually sticks to neutrals and the Mary-Kate and Ashley color scheme, I love it as an entry point into color—it makes a statement without feeling too loud or bold. I’m especially into the monochromatic approach, playing with different shades of burgundy, or pairing it with brown for an easy fall combo.

This is one of those looks where you probably already have everything in your closet, but never thought to put it all together like this. The denim top adds a little edge to a romantic, flowy skirt, creating that perfect contrast. I especially love the peplum shape on the wearer’s piece, which plays up the feminine feel but still has a ruggedness to it. Pointed-toe heels really complete the look, but you could easily swap them for boots for something that leans more laid-back.

Instead of the usual low-rise jeans and tiny tops, it’s all about the poncho and boxer-inspired pants. The cape-meets-sweater silhouette is having a major moment right now—so if you don’t have one yet, let this be your sign—and the boxer-inspired pants offer an alternative to the usual baggy denim. It switches things up while still delivering the nostalgic vibes we clearly haven’t gotten over.
