Exclusive: The TV and Movie Watching Habits of Extremely Thirsty People

· Cosmopolitan

Welcome to Long Live the Sex Scene, a special project by Cosmopolitan that explores why these steamy television and movie moments truly matter, especially right now. Join us as we rewind, replay, and then rewind them all over again.

Here at Cosmo, we love writing about sex, we love thinking about sex, and we certainly love watching TV and movie sex scenes—sometimes over and over (and over...) again. That’s why we created a survey all about them, and over the summer, hundreds of you weighed in.

Of our more than 450 respondents over the age of 18, a whopping 86 percent said yes to including sex in TV shows and movies. But while some of you have a bit more chill when it comes to onscreen sex, others aren’t just passive observers—you’re superfans: 22 percent of you said that rather than just watching it like any other scene or looking awa, you’ll actually go back and rewind a sex scene just to watch it again.

Unsurprisingly, those folks who <3 getting an instant replay on sex scenes also <3 nudity. Eighty percent of those who said they tend to rewatch those intimate onscreen moments also support sex scenes with full nudity (as opposed to the 51 percent who don’t tend to rewind and rewatch), and 52 percent of rewatchers even think that a good sex scene requires nudity (as opposed to the 25 percent who don’t keep their finger on the rewind button during sex scenes).

22 percent of you said you’ll go back and rewind a sex scene to watch it again.

But it doesn’t seem that this, ahem, increased interest necessarily spans across generations. Only 40 percent of the folks who are rewatching sexy scenes are Gen Z, which means it’s the 29+ crowd that are really bookmarking their fave hot-and-heavy onscreen moments.

That said, it’s clear from our overall survey results that Gen Z hasn’t completely shunned the sex scene (and if you’re still watching and rewatching a few particular scenes from Netflix’s Forever, you wouldn’t be alone).
