Lives were changed (AKA mine) when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry dropped the mega-bombshell news that they were stepping back from their roles as senior members of the British Royal Family. As a refresher, here’s how it went down:

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” the pair wrote in a January 8, 2020 statement on Instagram. “It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.”

Fast forward to today, over six years later, Harry is disagreeing with claims that he’s not a working member of the royal family in an interview with ITV, during which the the reporter discussed his and Meghan’s recent trips to Australia and Jordan (which have looked p similar to the work trips they took while still senior royals. But when the interviewer as if the “not a working royal,” Harry had a pretty interesting response.

“No. I will always be part of the royal family,” he told the reporter. “I am here working doing the things that I was born to do.”

Harry even doubled down on his statement—“I enjoy doing it. I enjoy coming to do these trips and supporting that … the friends that I've made, and hopefully, bringing attention to issues that, for one reason or another, drop out of the news because something else has popped up,” he added.

Glad we’ve cleared that up!
