The Old Navy x Altuzarra Collab Is Where My Designer Dreams Meet My Real-Life Budget

· Cosmopolitan

Something I don’t think any of us were ready for? The Old Navy takeover. Alas, here we are. Me and every other girl on the street are wearing pieces from the store I’ve always seen as the go-to for Fourth of July tees and under-$20 basics—and I’m not mad about it, especially because my wallet is loving it, too. With iconic American fashion designer Zac Posen at the helm since 2024, it’s obvious Old Navy is having a major moment. And it’s only getting bigger, with iconic collaborations that have brought fashion houses like Anna Sui, Christopher John Rogers, and now Altuzarra into the mix.

The limited-edition Old Navy x Altuzarra collection, which ranges from $24.99 to $139.99, takes inspiration from “the gothic and romantic period of literature,” Joseph Altuzarra tells Cosmo. For the collaboration, he looked to classics like Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice as muses. If you know his work, the vision makes sense: dramatic silhouettes, sharp tailoring, and femininity are core to his design formula. Here, he brings those signatures to Old Navy in a way that feels more relaxed and approachable, and most importantly, accessible. (Ahem, the entire collection is on my wishlist—especially after seeing the iconic Alexa Chung fronting the campaign and making it all look so effortlessly chic.)

And it also speaks to the way consumers are shopping now. “There’s so much more mixing in people’s wardrobes,” Altuzarra tells me. “If they can afford it, people are buying a great piece from a luxury brand. But they’re also buying really great Gap jeans or Old Navy shirting.” That mix was important to him when creating the line. Rather than “dumbing down” his designs, he wanted to bring the same intention he would to a runway collection, working vintage-inspired florals, jewel tones, and lustrous satin into versatile pieces like tea dresses, cardigans, blouses, parkas, and more.

As a fashion shopping editor, I got an early look at the collection in person, ahead of its announcement, and what struck me most was just how much there was to choose from. From dressier looks and staple tops to chic outerwear, the assortment caters to a range of personal styles. Bandana and plaid prints, intricate embroidery, and pretty scarf details instantly level up the everyday pieces without veering into anything over-the-top or overly precious. That same sense of accessibility was top of mind for Posen, too, with sizes ranging from XS to 4X and 0 to 24. “In terms of accessibility, what’s amazing and different from designer or luxury is that these pieces are sized and fit to our customer, and the beauty of the diversity of her body,” he tells Cosmo.

Whether you’ve been a longtime fan of the luxury brand, this is your first introduction, or if you’ve been keeping up with Old Navy’s recent run of designer partnerships, your fall outfits are in for a treat. The collab will be available to shop online at OldNavy.com and in select Old Navy stores starting September 30. If you’re an Old Navy cardholder, though, you get first access and can shop it today.
