“For my extra allowance” – M’sian Wife Amused After Discovering Husband Tracks Whether She Cooks At Home
by Kyan Koh · WORLD OF BUZZIn marriage, every couple finds their own unique and lighthearted ways to bring joy and laughter into their daily routines.
Recently, @erica.velvet, a local Threads user captured the hearts of netizens after sharing the amusing and unexpected habit her husband has of keeping a daily record of whether she cooks at home.
An amusing daily log as a token of appreciation
In the post, @erica.velvet shared her mix of amusement and disbelief after discovering that her husband had started a daily tracking list since August, six years into their marriage.
The log featured regular updates noting “tak masak” (didn’t cook), interspersed with days when she prepared homemade dishes like chicken sambal, tomyam, and honey chicken. Shedding light on the reasoning behind her husband’s quirky habit, she shared:
“The reason is to give me extra allowance. But why does it have to be recorded? I still can’t wrap my head around it. Is your husband like this too?”
However, clarifying the situation further for her followers, she emphasised that there was no malice behind the chart. Instead, it was simply his playful way of appreciating her efforts, especially since she rarely cooks due to her busy work schedule.
“Guys, don’t get it wrong. My husband just started making this recording schedule in August, which was last month after 6 years of marriage. I just know he does this as a token of appreciation because I rarely cook. So whenever I do cook, he appreciates it a lot,” she explained.
She also added that her husband completely understands how tired she is after returning from work, and they usually opt to eat out whenever there is no home-cooked meal available.
Spreading positivity and appreciating the little things
The lighthearted post quickly went viral, pulling in thousands of likes and supportive comments as netizens resonated with the couple’s playful dynamic. Responding to the wave of reactions, the user expressed her gratitude and reminded everyone to view things through a positive lens.
“Thank you to those who prayed good things for us and took it as a positive thing. To those who left negative comments, I pray good things for all of you too,” she expressed warmly.
Concluding her thoughts on a wholesome note, she left a gentle reminder for other couples: not to focus on what a partner fails to do, but to appreciate the small efforts they make, avoid comparing marriages with others, and always rely on open communication and appreciation.
Netizens’ reactions
“Hahahah. Cute. Probably trying to encourage you to cook daily.”
“Next level. But it is considered okay since it feels like they’re paying attention too. So, the more you cook, the more he will reward you right?”
“I’m the type who likes to make things easy for my husband. If he acts like this, it’s simple: I’m not cooking from January to December.”
“That’s actually fine. It means he doesn’t force or expect you to cook, but when you do cook, he gives you a reward, which is great. Because a lot of wives out there cook 3 or 4 times a day without getting any reward at all. Hehehe”
