M’sian Gets Stranded in Jakarta Due to Volcanic Eruption, Returns Home to Whopping RM240 Airport Parking Fee

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

A recent social media post caught netizens’ attention after a Malaysian man found himself stranded in Jakarta far longer than expected, leading to a surprisingly heavy parking bill when he returned.

According to Amirul Aizat (@amirul_aizat_adnan), what was supposed to be a quick trip took an unexpected turn when natural disasters disrupted his travel plans.

A quick 1-day trip turned into a 5-day ordeal

Amirul had initially travelled to Jakarta on 5 September for a coffee event and was scheduled to fly back the very next day, 6 September, at 2 PM.

However, his plans were completely upended when he received a notification that his airline had cancelled his flight.

The sudden cancellation was caused by the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, which resulted in major flight disruptions and left him stranded in the Indonesian capital for five days.

A steep parking bill at the barrier gate

Upon finally making it back to Malaysia and heading to his car, Amirul was greeted with a total parking fee of RM240 displayed on the screen at the exit barrier gate.

While he expected a higher bill than his usual RM110 for a day trip, the unexpected delay made the final charge a bit painful to swallow.

“I already expected it because previously a one-day trip cost around RM110… but because something unplanned happened this time, paying RM240 for parking felt quite expensive,” he shared.

Advice for fellow travellers

Following his experience, Amirul shared some key advice for anyone planning to park at the airport or go on trips:

  • Know the parking rates: Always check and understand the parking rates at the airport beforehand.
  • Prepare for the unexpected: Be mentally and financially prepared for unexpected delays, whether traveling near or far.
  • Get travel insurance: Never forget to secure travel insurance and takaful coverage to protect against unforeseen disruptions.
